Popular Weeds |
|||
|
Although Colorado is blessed with a wide variety of weeds, there are certain ones that stand out as being especially popular. Field bindweed - Ubiquitous and virtually indestructible, some have suggested dynamite as the only effective means of controlling this viney ground cover. Just leave any piece of disturbed ground alone, and in no time bind weed will cover it. Dandelions - If dandelions weren't considered a weed, women would be wearing them on their hats. It makes drinkable wine they say, and its leaves can be used in salads we are told. Russian knapweed - The Soviet empire may be long gone, but Russian knapweed is here to stay-- and is growing more popular every day. Counties across the state have been declaring it the latest new noxious weed. Thistles - Canada, Star, Bull, Musk . . . whatever the variety, these bodacious beauties are so prickly (and apparently unpalatable) that even cows won't eat'em. They are without a doubt some of Colorado's most popular weeds.
